What if the life was your child's? Spouse? Friend? Even a Stranger? Could you? Would you panic? Would you know what to do? I would have answered - yes. I would have said that I could do CPR if I needed to. After all, I took a class several years ago. I've watched ER and other shows like it. I've seen it done. Maybe you are alot smarter than this chick. Maybe you, as a mother, wife, daughter, friend, have taken a class recently. If you have ,like me, put this on a "to do" list -please do it today. Tomorrow could be too late. If you ever find yourself (I pray you don't) in a life or death situation - you.will.want.to.know.how. to. help.Trust me. As you probably have read in past posts( see scariest day), my baby had a seizure in his sleep and stopped breathing for over 2 minutes. That's a long time. I lost it in a big way. I was not sure of what to do and unfortunately the 911 operator was no help. He was foaming at the mouth. I thought, do I do rescue breaths? Will, that make him choke on the saliva? How do I do rescue breaths the RIGHT way anyway. What if I do it wrong and make things worse? Sadly, I sat there with him in my arms and screamed bloody murder! That's what I was capable of doing. God breathed breath into him and he did turn out okay. No damage done. Thank You God! What I want convey to all of you is to learn CPR. Now. I honestly thought I could handle a situation such as this. Why? I have no idea. Foolish Pride, maybe. I was certainly brought back to the reality that I am not in control, I'm not all that and I don't know everything (don't mention this to my kiddos). So, Get on the phone. Sign up for a CPR class. Be prepared -- so that my stupidity will not be in vain!
thank you so much for the encouraging words left on my blog. you are such a sweetheart!

I'm going to sign up Faith for CPR! It's scary if you think about what you would do and if you would know how...and so on!
Good post!

This is something I've been meaning to do anyway! I can stay calm in a crisis (most of the time) but I don't know exactly what to do! I need to learn!

I took one 5 years ago, but lately thinking, I would have no clue what to do! Thanks for the reminder!

Good advice. I was a trained lifeguard several years ago, so I know a lot of CPR and first aid, but I am not confident that I would remember any of it in a stressful situation. Then again, maybe God would bring it all to my remembrance...
However, it would probably be a good idea to take a refresher course.

Oh dear - I think I would have reacted the same way you did. I don't know if I would have reacted different knowing CPR. I remember with kids is always a little different - the breath to breath I mean...

You've got me thinking, Faith. Honestly, that isn't something I ever thought about doing, the CPR class I mean. Not really sure why though.

I have to be honest, here ... I took an infant/child CPR class when my son was 1 month old, and for.the.life.of.me ... I can't remember anything. Is it 5 breaths and one pump? Is it two fingers or three? Ugh!
Thanks for the reminder to freshen up my studies.
