I have been so far behind in my posting that I am now about to bust wide open!! For y'all that don't know, that means - I'm excited!! Wooohooo! so much to say.
Here is some basic information regarding Little Miss Six. First, please realize that Six is NOT her real name. Six is the number of children we have. So, now some of you folks that were shakin' your head in amazement, thinking I watched too much "Blossom" back in the day - well, you can chill.
Little Miss Six is eleven years old. That's practically grown (in her mind anyway)! She is a little sprite of a thing - maybe the size of an eight year old. She has a smile that will melt your heart and can pitch a fit that will make you pull your hair out!! Whew! She has been in the system for six years. She is Deaf and non-verbal. She loves to sing - yes, you read that right. She LOVES music - yep, again you read it right. She thinks Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus hung the moon. She is "in love" with the Jonas brothers. All of those facts can bring tears to my eyes for many different reasons.
She was attending a residential school for the Deaf last year (and for the past three years). Dorm life as a young child!! What did that mean to her?? She lived at the school during the week and rode a bus for SEVEN to EIGHT HOURS to the foster home on Friday's and then back again on Sunday's! Can you imagine?? Every Friday and Sunday!! That's a lot of bus riding! That's not much time with the foster family.
Now, that said, Deaf schools provide so much that the Deaf child needs. Please don't misunderstand what I am talking about. I am talking about Little Miss Six - no one else. The problem with her situation was, well, her situation! She had no advocates. She had no family. She really and truly was alone. Raising herself. Basic life skills that you start teaching your children from the beginning, were lost to her at 11 years old. She never lived in a home house that could communicate with her. No one even cared try. Amazing!
I have to be careful what I say (about the system), given that the adoption is not yet final. Shhhhhh, this is all just between you and me!!
More later,
Faith
Congrats!! I just found your blog.. its nice to see the love that you have to go around!
